Cotswold Holiday Cottages : The Old Stables, Cirencester

Sleeps 4 - Property No: C099

This beautifully converted detached barn is set in the tranquil village of Poole Keynes with its pretty church and charming cottages and is the perfect base from which to explore this fascinating part of the Cotswolds. The cottage is situated in the grounds of an impressive Grade II listed farmhouse and has the benefit of a fully enclosed lawned garden where you can sit and enjoy pretty countryside views, including an orchard and meadow with resident sheep and goat.

The fine market town of Cirencester, once the capital of Roman Britain, is just 5 miles away. Here you can visit the Corinium Museum and St Michael’s Abbey or simply browse around the wide variety of quality shops the town has to offer. A 20 minute drive will take you to the Chedworth Roman villa, hidden away at Yanworth, Bibury, with its trout farm and beautiful terraced cottages and the Cotswold Museum is at Northleach, all an easy drive along the Fosseway (A429) old Roman road.

The area offers nature lovers and walkers plenty to do. The Thames Path, which meanders through several rural counties by peaceful water meadows rich in wildlife, can be joined at nearby Kemble. The world famous Westonbirt Arboretum (beautiful any time of the year but especially colourful during May/June and Autumn) is near the attractive market town of Tetbury (approx 10 miles from the cottage.) An easy drive away is the Cotswold Wildlife Park at Burford, a wonderful day out for adults and children alike while Berkley Castle (National Trust) and Slimbridge Bird Sanctuary - both in the same direction, are excellent to visit. For those seeking a more active stay, the award winning Cotswold Water Park is approx 3 miles and offers a range of exciting activities including windsurfing, waterskiing, boat hire and angling.
